Insulate your windows with energy-efficient glass and custom frames in Antwerp. Honest advice on PVC, aluminium and wood. Request a free quote from Glazer.
A draught along your window, cold surfaces in winter and heating that never stops running: the cause often lies with outdated or poorly insulating windows. By insulating your windows with energy-efficient glass and properly fitted frames, you keep the warmth inside and the cold out. That increases comfort at home and can noticeably lower your energy consumption. At Glazer in Antwerp we install custom windows and doors in PVC, aluminium and wood, with double glazing, high-performance glazing or triple high-performance glazing. We give honest, personal advice on what makes sense in your situation, and wherever possible we prepare the complete grant application for you. On this page you'll read how window insulation works and what to look out for.
A window insulates only as well as its weakest link. Three things work together here: the glass, the frame and the installation. Only when all three are right do you truly benefit from reduced heat loss. Beautiful glass in a draughty frame or a poorly finished joint often works against you in practice.
The insulation value of a complete window is expressed as the U-value (often called Uw for the whole window). The lower that figure, the less heat is lost. Modern high-performance glazing insulates considerably better than older double glazing, and triple high-performance glazing takes that a step further.
Besides heat loss, airtightness also matters. Gaps and worn seals cause draughts and cold spots around the window. When replacing or refurbishing windows, we therefore always look at the connection with the wall, so that no thermal bridges or draught gaps are left behind.
Would you like to know whether, in your case, insulation is mainly a matter of the glass, the frame or the installation? A free on-site visit often yields more than guessing based on appearance alone.
The glass largely determines how energy-efficient your window is. Glazer works with double glazing, high-performance glazing (often called HR glass) and triple high-performance glazing, so we can match the right choice to your home and your budget.
High-performance glazing has a thin, invisible coating and usually a noble-gas filling between the glass layers. As a result it insulates significantly better than classic double glazing, while you barely notice anything from the outside. For many homes this is a balanced choice between comfort and cost.
Triple high-performance glazing adds an extra glass layer and cavity, and therefore insulates even better. This is especially worthwhile for large glazed sections, cold north-facing façades or well-insulated homes where the window would otherwise remain the weak spot. The glass is heavier, though, so the frame and the hardware must be designed for it.
Which glass makes sense for you depends on your home, its orientation and your plans. We explain honestly when triple glazing is worth the extra cost and when high-performance glazing already suffices, without talking you into anything you don't need.
The frame around the glass helps determine how well the window insulates and how it will look for years to come. Glazer installs windows in PVC, aluminium and wood, each with its own strengths. The best choice depends on your home, your style and how much maintenance you want.
PVC profiles insulate well by nature and require little maintenance, which makes them a popular and budget-conscious choice. Aluminium is strong and slim, ideal for large windows and a sleek, modern look; good aluminium profiles are thermally broken so they still insulate properly. Wood has a warm, authentic appearance and insulates well, but needs periodic maintenance.
For some projects a combination is interesting, for example wood on the inside for the warm look and aluminium on the outside for durability. In a city like Antwerp, with both characterful façades and new builds, we like to choose the material to suit the streetscape and your own taste.
Because everything is made and installed to measure with us, we look at the whole picture: material, glass, colour and finish together. That way you get a window that not only insulates well, but also suits your home. That is what we mean by our tagline Visible Quality.
Even the best window disappoints if it's installed sloppily. Expert installation ensures the window connects to the wall in a watertight and airtight way, without draught gaps or thermal bridges. A large part of the final comfort and the real insulation gain comes from this.
At Glazer we therefore attach as much importance to the installation as to the product itself. We finish neatly, check the connections and explain how best to start using your windows. To us, craftsmanship means that things are right behind the finish as well.
Energy-efficient windows otherwise require little maintenance, but a little care extends their lifespan and keeps the insulation up to standard. Clean the profiles and the glass regularly, keep the drainage holes clear and occasionally check the seals and the hardware. Wooden frames need a periodic touch-up of the finishing layer.
Do you have existing windows and wonder whether they can still be saved with minor maintenance, or whether replacement is wiser? We're happy to give you an honest answer, even if that means an intervention can wait a little longer.
Window insulation isn't only about energy. Good windows also increase comfort in other ways. Energy-efficient glass reduces cold surfaces and condensation, and often dampens outside noise too, which makes a noticeable difference in a busy city like Antwerp.
In addition, safety plays a role. Modern windows can be fitted with burglar-resistant hardware and, where needed, safety glass. For doors and windows on the ground floor or in easily accessible spots, this is worth considering, so that comfort and peace of mind go hand in hand.
We always consider safety in proportion to your situation. Not every window needs the highest security level, but it's good to make a conscious choice rather than leave it to chance. During the advice we indicate where extra protection makes sense and where the standard package is perfectly sufficient.
This way, insulating your windows becomes more than an energy measure: you simultaneously gain comfort, peace and a safer feeling at home.
For energy-efficient measures such as installing insulating glass or new windows, grants may be available in Flanders. The conditions, amounts and application procedures change regularly and depend on your specific situation, so we prefer not to make promises about exact amounts before we know your file.
What we do do: prepare the complete grant application for you where applicable. That way you don't have to wade through all the forms and conditions yourself, and you know realistically in advance where you stand. We explain honestly what is feasible and what is not.
Every home and every project is different, so a price at a distance would be misleading. That's why we work with a custom quote, based on an on-site visit during which we measure the windows and discuss your wishes. You receive a clear overview of material, glass and installation.
